Our shop & community space

Welcome to Recyclique!

We are a non-profit co-op devoted to creative re-use.  Our vendors include adults and older teens that do “upcycling” (design and building of affordable products from found objects, trash and recycled materials). Our goal is eye-catching, cool products, that are useful and/or distinctive (not kitsch!).

We also feature traditional re-use — thrift, vintage, and refurbished items, plus crafts, fair trade, sustainability products, educational toys and books, and our Ecolounge space is used for educational events and available to community groups.

Our Recyclique retail shop, located at 2811 Hillsborough Rd, Durham, is open: The porch of CommunEcos/Recyclique

Wed. – Fri  3-6 pm, and 10-5 pm on Sat.

Our enterprise is run partly by volunteers (although we have created two very part-time jobs).  Our sales  support the educational mission and projects of CommunEcos, and create green income flows for underemployed people in the local economy.  Click on these links for more info on  Creative Re-use or our Co-op Production of painted rain barrels and other products.

Our new enlarged EcoLounge room is available to community groups for evening or Sunday rentals. $30 for 2-hour events, seats up to 25.  Digital projector, screen, wi-fi, bar area w/ dishes, microwave & coffee maker available for serving drinks and refreshments. Email yikes.contact@gmail.com for more info.

The EcoLounge is now a Gallery!  Each month we host a different artist who displays their work in the EcoLounge. If you are (or know) an artist who would like to display  work in our space, contact us at  yikes.contact@gmail.com.

In late 2014 Tana Hartmann began helping us develop the  The EcoLounge Cafe – which now serves hot and cold drinks and baked goods all day on Saturdays. We use a suggested donation system for food and drinks. We also serve hot tea or juice at many Friday night events.

The EcoLounge is also  the location of our books, CDs and art  (for sale).   We do digital video/slide presentations in the EcoLounge  during enviro-ed events, most often on Friday evenings at 6:30 pm or sometimes on Saturday afternoons at 2 pm. Sign up in the shop or email yikes.contact@gmail.com to get on our Friends list as we put out a weekly email newsletter with news on events and specials.

If you would like to learn how to become a crafter vendor at Recyclique, email yikes.contact@gmail.com.  Vendors who volunteer at least 4 hours a month routinely earn 70% of sales, and those who cannot volunteer can take a smaller cut or pay an annual membership fee ($28) or make in-kind donations  for vendor privileges.

We welcome donations of used items or sustainability products that fit our themes and which we think we can sell, but we are limited by space for both display and storage, so we must select carefully.  We are also open to special arrangements for use of the front yard on Saturdays for sales, exhibits, food vending, and demonstrations.

Come visit us — it’s a bright green house next to the Food Lion, about 4 blocks west of Ninth St. With Recyclique’s unique, creative and ever changing inventory — there will always be something to captivate your interest! Great source for the perfect gift that gives twice by helping to reduce waste, support local artisans and promote a green economy!
